Supply of MV Array Cable Repair Joints to UK Offshore Wind Farm

Power CSL Scope

Design and supply of medium voltage joints allowing subsea cables from different manufacturers, and of different conductor sizes to be used for a large scale array cable remedial campaign.

Background

Array cable issues can arise due to a number of factors. For short length array cables full replacement may be the most economic option, however for longer length array cables a rapidly installable PCSL repair joint may be preferred in terms of project logistics and cost.

In this instance logistics favoured repair of a number of array cable links. As insufficient project specific spare cable was available the Client utilised additional cable from other projects, meaning that the repair joint had to accommodate multiple cable designs and sizes.

Power CSL Deliverables

  • Design of repair joints
  • Test programme to confirm performance of design
  • Supply of repair joints tailored to the specific subsea cable designs to be used during the remedial campaign
  • Provision of Product Familiarisation Courses for multiple teams of offshore technicians in advance of the offshore works.

Outcome

All products and services were designed and supplied on time to the agreed technical specification. The campaign was completed successfully and met the project schedule
