An international umbilical manufacturer developed a cable design for a deep water subsea production system utilising multiphase pumps. The design incorporated 3 power triads each comprised of 3 x 95mm212/20kV power cores. Each triad was belted and sheathed with polyethylene. Due to the long lengths of umbilical to be produced the requirement was for 30 triad splices (ie 90 individual power core splices).
Power CSL developed a specific jointing procedure for the project which involved splicing of the power cores and stranded copper drain wire , reintroducing the correct lay length (length of twist) into the triad construction, and reinstatement of the polyethylene jacket.
The first phase of the project involved production of a range of qualification samples which successfully passed a range of electrical, mechanical, and hydrostatic tests against a demanding end client specification.
Teams of jointers and splicing equipment were then mobilised to the Client’s US umbilical facility providing 24 hour 7 day cover for the umbilical production schedule. The project ran over a 3-month period.
Power CSL offer factory power core splicing tailored to any power umbilical design. We would be pleased to discuss your individual project requirements
