Conductor Jointing :
A brazing technique is employed utilising purpose built equipment with precise control of voltage, current, and pressure, and giving highly repeatable results on mechanical strength of the joint. In advance of brazing various treatments are required to ensure any water blocking media present does not interfere with fusion of the conductor faces. Visual checks and radiography are applied to all splices as routine tests.
The conductor screen is reinstated over the jointed conductor using semi-conducting tape. This is followed by insulation reinstatement using a specially formulated XLPE tape system which is subsequently cured under pressure. The reinstated system quality is then verified by electrical and partial discharge testing and radiography, following which the semi-conducting core screen is applied over the jointed core section.

Screen tapes, wires, extruded metallic layers are then reinstated dependent upon the individual core design. The outer sheath is replaced utilising heatshrink components and water seals (if required).
